The Microphone Initiative was founded by Seokhyun (Nathan) Baek on September 12, 2021. The initiative was an idea sparked from a question Nathan's English teacher addressed: "raise your hand if you have heard about the SDG." Nathan observed that only 2 out of 23 students raised their hands up. He saw this as a pressing issue and discovered that youth engagement in the SDGs was slacking behind.

Therefore, he and the executive team found the Microphone Initiative with one united mission to provide a platform for young students to understand and discover the SDGs, then employ their ideas that may help advance the SDGs.
Since 2021, the Microphone Initiative grew large in numbers. From a one-man job to an 80-member initiative, the Microphone Initiative has impacted over 500+ students from 25+ countries.

We just set our foot down. There is much more to come and much more to provide for young people like us. Youth Engagement stands at the core of our mission and it will stay as it is until the SDGs are accomplished.
